Today's the day ....................... to go surfin'

We left Kerikeri today and the Bay of Islands - and headed back south to Auckland. From there we would take the ferry to the island of Waiheke where we were spending the next few days.

We took a little detour off State Highway 1 to follow the coast through the little settlements of Matapouri and Tutukaka and on the way, we came upon the most beautiful, pristine, sandy beach. The sky was blue, the sun was already beating down - and the surf was definitely up.

The surfers were floating and bobbing in the water, looking out to sea and waiting for the big one that would give them the ride of their lives. Or maybe just throw them up and spit them out .................
