It's a monument to 5 locals who towed a mine away from West Wemyss in 1941, as it would have caused major destruction had it exploded on the beach by the village.
It did explode further along the coast, killing all 5. They're buried in the churchyard to the left.
Also worth noting the daffodils. I know it's milder down by the sea (5 meters away on the right), but that's crazy for 3rd week in January.
I'd cycled over on a cold, windy & wet afternoon. Great exercise (20km there & back) and lots of fresh air.
