Amsterdam News photographer for Avonte's funeral

There was a depth and sweetness in this man's face that I noticed before I started talking to him, in the giant scrum of photographers and news trucks that suddenly materialized around the corner to our place in front of the Church of St. Joseph.

The terrible story behind this was the disappearance of a 14-year-old autistic and nonverbal boy in Oct., whose remains were only found a few days ago. For weeks and weeks posters of his young face haunted subway stations and people truly hoped he might still be found.
