Little Glenshee

This morning I headed to Little Glenshee, a few miles north of Perth, for a walk. Primary goal was simply to get some fresh air and exercise, secondary goal was to get some photos and to try out my old cheap Jessops tripod to see if it's worth carrying along on longer walks.

The pretext to this is: I have a Manfrotto tripod which is brilliant but a bit weighty (~2.1kg) and bulky to be carrying very far. I also have my old Jessops tripod which I knew wasn't much good when I bought it, but it was all I could afford at the time.

The Little Glenshee area isn't as grand or majestic as proper Glenshee or the Cairngorms in general but it gives you a hint of what lies further north, and it's almost on my doorstep, which is nice. It's quite an exposed area and the wind, as is the norm in Scotland, was blowing a gale. It didn't take long to discover that the lightweight tripod (~500g) is going to be next to useless in this country.

Consequently, this shot was taken handheld and I'd have liked a bit more depth of field but was more concerned with getting a shake-blur free shot.

I shall visit again with the more sturdy tripod in tow.
