Witch Hazel flower
A close up of the witch hazel flower, hidden in among the tangle of yellow petals. This is the yellow variety - we have three and I may just blip the other two in the next few days.
P.s. 'witch' in this case originates from bendable or pliable - as in switch. Although they were used as divining rods in the Americas in the same way as the Wych Elm which may have influenced the name. It was favoured my the American Indians for medicinal purposes and is still used today for skin applications as an antiseptic and astringent.
