Two Pigeons, Four Chimneys
Two pigeons, four chimneys, all sat on a roof.
The chimneys looked terribly tall.
The wind blew around them. Rain rattled the tiles,
And the huddling pigeons seemed small.
The two birds decided to call it a day,
Roofs aren't always the best place to sleep.
But the chimneys stood tall, quite determined to stay
On that roof so amazingly steep.
Four chimneys, no pigeons, atop the high roof.
The chimneys looked noble and bold.
And there they still sit, every day of the year,
Even now when the weather's stone cold*.

*It isn't really stone cold here today, though it will be a lot colder by next Monday, according to the weather forecast. Spotted these chimneys on a Dartmouth building, having never noticed them before. They remind me a lot of Hampton Court's chimneys.
Over the past few days I've spotted catkins, snowdrops, a butterfly and, today, a pair of gambolling lambs: all signs of spring, but they seem far too early. I fear Mother Nature is playing tricks on us, and we'll still have a long wait for true spring. I'd love to be proved wrong, though!
