Saxon Stone
I had to go to the bank this morning to pay in a (small) cheque. It was grey, damp and generally uninspiring so I popped into St John's Church.
It was built between the late 12th century and early 15th century (but was extensively rebuilt in Victorian times) to replace a Saxon church that had stood on (or close to) the present site since 685AD. This is one of the Saxon stones that are set in the wall under the tower (this wall is inside the church).
