Knit for a bit?

We first spotted the trees with coats on en route to school this morning. We went back this afternoon to get a blip and in doing so found the explanation - www.knitforabit.co.uk apparently:

"Knit for a Bit is the first event of it’s kind in the UK held in and around Solihull, West Midlands. The idea is to get people knitting again or learning how to knit.
Various venues are hosting a Knit for a Bit coffee morning and we need more! Everyone is welcome to take part, meet people, have Knit and a chat or have a coffee morning at home or work place.
In the process you’ll knit small squares which will be sewn into blankets and distributed by the Children’s Society. It is set to be a fantastic first of many Coffee Mornings launched by Sewing Skills for Life supported by The Children’s Society."

I now realise that there are odd bits of knitwear strung out over the oddest places around Solihull - over clocks, around traffic bollards....They make funny blips, but I'm not entirely sure that it is going to encourage the average child to take up knitting though.
