Lynch Gate

at St Matthew's Church, Blackmoor. I was passing this church today whilst taking my friend to a local garden centre. We then had a nice lunch in a local pub (A bit of 'ladies that lunch' today!)
Sir Roundell Palmer had the church built in 1866 it cost £10,749. 10s. 11d.
He was made Lord Chancellor in 1872 and took the title Earl of Selbourne. His family are still involved in the Blackmoor Estates, farming and fruit growing and the present Earl still continues in the family responsibilities regarding the parish.
The lynch Gate was added in 1899.
