We Actually had to use this..

We spent a morning on the top of the local cliffs watching for a Tsunami that never came to us, but had just prior devastated large parts of Samoa. Our house is beach front and our neighbours across the road made jokes about how they were going to be beach front soon and we were going to float away.At the time it seemed quite stressful in the rush to evacuate, then exciting while you wait, and then a slightly disappointing lack of action when we could not see a massive wave rolling in from the East, but later very sobering when we heard the news about Samoa. Wasn't such a joke then, I can tell you.
Next trip to the beach we will take our tsunami supplies, torches, radios, water etc so that we can grab it and go if necessary. New Zealand is on a major fault line and earthquakes are not uncommon. An active small island volcano is only 20 miles down the coast. This action plan was in our kitchen but we had never read it before. It is now on the fridge so visitors can also see it. Pretty good graphics I thought.
