Luke

I had a good feeling about this little newborn session. I met Luke's parents for a maternity shoot last year, and we got on really well, so I knew it would be a relaxed shoot. He was also born a bit early, so he's only a couple of days past his due date, which always makes my life easier. It was my first newborn shoot of the year, and this morning as I left home I pictured the perfect session: a cute, sleepy baby, not too much photoshop work needed, and lots of space and light in the house.

My good feeling turned out to be right because it really was the perfect shoot, I couldn't ask for more. He was well fed and asleep when I arrived, and though he's a slightly restless sleeper, he was easy to soothe without having to give him to his mum. There was space for me to do the whole shoot with an 85mm lens, and good light when the rain clouds weren't blocking it out. I normally set aside 3 hours for a newborn session, knowing that it could potentially go to 4, but today I was in and out in 90 minutes. A good start to the year, long may it last!
