From Crystal Palace to Calais

This is a detail of one of my favourite oddball pieces of London - something I have blipped before.

This panel is at the rebuilt Blackfriars Station. I assume it has been rescued from the old station though I don't recall ever seeing it there. It's a tableau of many of the destinations, both commonplace and exotic, you could reach after setting off from London on the old London, Chatham and Dover Railway.

I love the way that mundane and romantic destinations sit side by side.
