A/D Conversion
I recently dug out the old 'zoom slide copier' that I used to use to copy 35mm slides years ago and wondered if it could be used on a DSLR. The answer is a qualified yes; with a T-mount to suit, the copier fits my Nikon but, as it's a 'crop' sensor camera, the slide copier will only give a partial view of the original 35mm image. A full-frame DSLR would 'see' the whole slide but in the meantime, taking four shots and compositing in Photoshop works well enough. Having been pleased with the quality of scans produced by my (reasonably costly) Minolta slide scanner over the past few years, I'm just a wee bit surprised to find that the results from the relatively cheap (and old) slide copier attached to DSLR seem to be every bit as good, so far, and in some cases significantly better.
This image is a crop from the middle of an 'Ilfochrome' 35mm colour slide and shows fishing boats landing their catch at the port of Burntisland, in Fife, Scotland. I guess this will maybe be sometime in the 1950/60s?
