Black and white
Casual observers will have noticed I have a fondness for the odd mono. Over the years I've probabaly shot and developed quite a few of these though being a trained chemist I'm well over the "it's like magic" stage. Back in the day It would cost me about £2 out of a £10 a week income to develope one of these and then once it was done there was printing, my Dad effectively gave up photography for most of his life as he was bringing us up as it was a cost he could not justify with having three kids.
These days I will generally shoot my blip on the run and then have the shot downloaded, treated and uploaded in around 15 mins (kids!!) compare that to this. I've found, especially in the last year, that I have went miles further in my mono stuff than in all the years trying to process and get the odd bit of darkroom time. I never had enough resources to hone skills to where I wanted to be. I am constantly amazed at the quality and inventivemess that I see in here and especially from the kids. It's incredible where they can explore and experiment, all with little further cost. I'm there with them now, pity I didn't have a dSLR and an iMac in 1982. the past is over rated kids ;)
This shot was processed on Silver Efex Pro using the HP5 preset and an orange filter.
Thanks for all the comments yesterday, they were really appreciated. As I saw them coming in I was thinking I had maybe over processed the shot. when I got home the RAW was just the same as the shot, all I did was crop and a bit of sharpening.
