Donna 24/7

Meet Donna the Deutsch Stichelhaar who belongs to friends Mr&MrsB in the village, MrB our bee godfather and also one of the official hunters in the area.

The English Wiki Stub describes the breed:

Stichelhaars are tough and very dominant. They are very aggressive towards strangers and will accept only one master. This breed has not become popular because of a tendency to bite. They are better outdoor dogs.

This is not at all what the French & German full Wiki Links say. My French is not good but I don't think the French description is quite the same:

...équilibré, calme, résistant et courageux. C'est un chien maître de lui et ni peureux, ni agressif.

If I could find the button to notify/complain I would. They are possibly not lap dogs and the French recommendation not to have one if you also have children, may well be good advice. Just as good as the current TV ad in Germany for Smart cars, suggesting they are not the best choice for cross county terrain work (and that SUV's don't make the best city vehicles!).

Donna is a pure working dog, it's what she has been bred & trained to do. She is on call 24/7 if the police call that there is an injured wild animal to be found, normally after a collision with a car. She can't be a softie and at the same time deal with an injured wild boar. She has to be fixated on her owner and yet work independently.

However our experience with Donna has always been extraordinarily friendly. She's so thrilled when one comes by, wagging her tale like an overgrown puppy. She gets on well with Flash & Luna but as she might react to fast moving cats & chickens, MrB doesn't let her off the lead on our property.

The Blip was taken this evening - I had to pop by Mr&MrsB's as I needed some more honey for my colleagues in Munich. We still have some of our own honey but it's so good that not even money can buy it. Today, George sent jars to Luna's fist home in Berlin and Tom in Munich. If our bees survive the winter/spring, we will have to think about selling some of the 2014 harvest but will no doubt come to a sales & marketing agreement/cooperative with MrB.

Do you think with that look in her eyes, Donna would do anyone harm?
