a fell view
This is Loughrigg, my local fell. The other 'local', the one in which I have consumed many a half pint in years gone by I will blip another day.
Although low in comparison to most, it has miles of footpaths - up, around and across. It used to have a golf course! The upper path in the photo leads to Rydal Cave (blip to come) and the lower one around the shore of Rydal Water.
This time last year I met a walker and we got chatting. "It's good to have a job that takes you out on the fells" he began. I must have looked puzzled (that's not unusual). "I'm a writer", said he. "Have you read The Wainwright Companion"? "Er,no" I replied.
Turned out he was planning a book on Loughrigg. I have just looked it up on the web and no sign of anything. Think I heard a few days ago that he is now going to update the Wainwright series so perhaps the other book has been put on hold.
