Cracked

Today’s challenge is cracked and this is certainly cracked and it is in keeping with my journal which, together with the GOG’s journal will document the replacement and repairs, which we are having done this year.

This is one of the reasons that this veranda and in particular this stupid glass roof will be replaced once the builders begin work. The whole structure was built by the previous owners at the start of their occupancy over fifty years ago and although the glass roof has had some panels replaced, it has always been a disaster area. The structure was built so that to clean windows, repair guttering or do any maintenance work to the back of the house, you needed to have scaffolding erected; this will be rectified when the replacement is completed. Birds fly over and drop things on the glass roof and in the past, but not so often recently, children waiting to catch their train home from school have thrown railway ballast at it. It is now more difficult for them to get the ballast from the track as the platforms have been changed. They tend not to enter the garden now either, although they do play football in the road outside, which is not a problem.

A foggy, frosty and very cold morning, but this afternoon, although still cold the sun is shining. I removed the solar lights from the grapevine and Virginia creeper this morning, freezing my finger in the process, ready for when the workmen arrive to start work, although this is not imminent. Unfortunately I think the vine and creeper will have to be removed completely and as they are very old, I doubt they can be replanted.
