The Struggle & Dedication
20/365/2014 MLK Day
"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." Martin Luther King, Jr.
We did not have school today in observance of Dr. King's Day. We had a lovely lunch outing with extended families to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and then took a 10 min circuitous route to take some pictures. This huge mansion-like building was once, I am sure, beautiful. Maybe not as beautiful as Downton Abbey (:^), but good enough to serve many people.
Looking at this now abandoned and condemned building, I think of the long and ugly fight for civil rights of our nation that, for so many, was the unchangeable. Through the sacrifice and suffering by those few who didn't lose hope, and by those who didn't give up on educating and informing the ignorant, and by those believed in love and peace, we live in a new world. We will continue to struggle. But good changes, I believe, will continue to happen.
Here's Pride (in the name of love) for today's sound illustration to honor and remember Dr. King.
