Fair Maid of Perth
There are two pieces of street art in Perth's High Street. One is the homage to Perth poet, William Soutar and the other is this depiction of the Fair Maid of Perth aka Catherine Glover.
I think she looks a bit grumpy. Maybe the book she's holding is Walter Scott's novel of the same name. This Wikipedia article suggests he played fast and loose with the hisorical actualitee.
She's not a real person out of history, but Glover is one of the big local Perthshire names and the Fair maid's House, behind the Concert Hall, was bought by the Glover Incorporation (a medieval guild) in the 17th century. It is the oldest non-religious building in Perth.
I confess I've not read the novel.
One other thing: neither she nor the Soutar work are ever vandalised, though I notice a passing seagull has been disrespectful :-)
