Casualties of the economic downturn
Had a really busy morning with the American Women's Association. I am currently the membership secretary and January is the month everyone renews their membership, so a very hectic meeting but I had lots of lovely ladies helping me and I couldn't have done it without them. On the way home I wanted to take a photo of how hazy it was from sand being blown around. As I came acdayss the babandonedfrom Muharraq the buildings were just solid shapes of beige, but of course there's never anywhere to stop when you see your perfect blip. so I had to wait till I was further into town. There is a tiny layby just big enough for one car, so no possibility to choose a better photographic angle. The light was different here and didn't show the lovely beige shapes but never mind.
These three buildings with the cranes were started, I think, in 2009 and rapidly went up. I remember going home for the summer and they were half glazed and thinking they would be finished when we returned, but they have never changed since then. They look really ghostly at night as they do not even have air traffic warning lights lighting them and during the day they look very sad and abandoned and I often wonder what their future fate might be.
It looks like we will be flying home some time next week for my Mum
-in-law's funeral, so that tends to dominate our lives a bit at present. It will be good to be with the family.
