Juvenile Bald Eagle
Today Carol and I were on a hunt for Eagles... We went to our usual spot only to be told just yesterday there were lots of them along the river bank feeding. Another person told us that last Saturday was also a great day for watching the Eagles. Seems like we are usually a week or so late each year.
We saw a few mature Eagles but they were to far away for our cameras.. This one sat nicely for us as we walked below..
For their first 3 to 5 years, Juvenile Bald Eagles are a subdued mixture of chocolate brown with varying amounts of white over the body, tail and underwings. Both Adults and Juveniles can weigh 7 to 14 pounds with a 7 foot wing span. Their physical features are identical. However - because Juvenile plumage is longer and thicker - Juveniles actually are larger than they will be as mature, adults.
