Dive bombers

What a lovely day at the beach it was! Soooo many great pictures to chose from. Makes it tough to pick ONE. Wish I had PS so I could do a montage.

The class heard a presentation from historical interpeters on the book they've been reading a true story about an American Indian girl who was stranded on an island off the coast of Ventura and survived for a few years. The book is "The Island of the Blue Dolphins." Fantastic field trip for them. It really let them see, touch, feel, smell and even taste what the main character was experiencing. We sat on the beach, taking notes of the enviornment; tasted Chia seeds (yep, like Chia Pet - the kids were singing the song); built a canoe from planks & twine; made string from yucca leaves; carved wood with shells & learned about all the native plants that were on the island. They theorized how she may have had to use her resources for food and shelter. Learning while still having fun!

They had to pullme away from the shore.....I could have spent the entire day watching the pelicans drop full speed into the water!! Such awesome birds! And the waves! They were beautiful. Not that big, but they crashed down on the rocks, spashing water high into the air.

Well worth the sunburn and windburn on my face.
