North Berwick
Today we went to North Berwickwhich is a lovely little seaside town, not far from Edinburgh.
We went to North Berwick because in the 1960s, when Ann lived in Newcastle, her family used to go to North Berwick on holiday. So Ann was having a bit of a reminiscent trip back in time. We parked outside the ‘Point Garry Hotel’ which is where she always stayed, but we think it’s just a private house now?!
Ann remembers swimming in the outdoor pool there and then having hot orange squash afterwards to warm up. .....................But the outdoor pool has long since been filled in?! The rest of the town is pretty much how it was in the 1960s. Strange how some places manage to stay in a bit of a time warp!
North Berwick is a bit like a Scottish version of St Ives. It has two lovely beaches so I had a really good run about and a swim.
The only trouble with North Berwick was..........................all the other doggies were pedigree ones and mainly labradors. Well, that wasn’t a problem for me. I’m a very sociable little collie and will play with anyone. But do you know what? ........................ We met a very snooty lady with two golden labradors. She said to Ann, ‘Can you call your dog away. I want to throw the ball for mine and I’ve just seen how fast yours can run. I don’t want it getting the ball.’ Well firstly, I’m not an ‘it’. And secondly, I’d already had a play with a black lab whose owner had loved me, so I wasn’t bothered about playing with two golden labs with a snobby owner. And anyway, I’d just chased some little birds along the water’s edge. I’d had to run ever so fast so I was feeling a bit exhausted and couldn’t be bothered to play ball with two podgy golden labs.
After my long play on the beaches we went for a little trek around town and noticed a couple of cafes/pubs that said doggies were welcome. So North Berwick is definitely our kind of place.
Back in the flat now and we’re going to spend the evening in – just the two of us – slobbing around in front of the TV. Yay!!!!
