The life & times of Jacks

Wassail!

We had a pretty awesome day on Saturday.

We had arrangements to meet some friends in South London for a Wassail. I'll get to that bit latter.
Since we still needed to go and arrange for my ring to be re-sized (it is a bit snug on the old finger) we decided to head into town a little earlier so off we went and headed towards Farringdon to Hatton Gardens.
On the way to Euston Square we found an interesting exhibit on medicine which had some exhibits that were a bit disturbing like this model of an obese person from the feed to the waist but from there it was just an excess blob of fat which was quite lifelike. Ick.

After we had sorted out dropping the ring off (I really miss having it!!!) we walked through town to St Paul's looking for somewhere nice for lunch. We found it at a place called Hush which was a lovely little bistro just across from the cathedral.

We still had some time to kill so wandered into St Pauls (in all the time I have lived down here I have never been inside - shocking!).

After St Pauls we grabbed a nice coffee and headed to Rotherhithe to join our friends and go to the Wassail. This was a ancient ceremony and in the picture that really is toast on the tree. The point of the ceremony is to toast the trees to get a bountiful fruit supply in the upcoming year.

The event was held at Brunel Museum and there were fab cocktails, open fires in oil drums and candles everywhere. The atmosphere was great and Steve and I had such a fabulous night. In addition, after the ceremony and some folk music the "Butler" took us down the Hobbit hole into what is one of the oldest tunnels in the world. We went into the Rotherhithe Shaft and got a little bit of history as well as some readings from the Hobbit.

Afterwards we all headed off for a curry and then finally home to bed. It was such a great day and evening!

I can't imagine our life being anywhere else - great friends and a great city that always surprises and entertains and educates.
