Chidai
Have gone a bit ga-ga over this little culinary specimen of late. It's called chidai in Japanese, which puts it in the "tai" family. I imagine that it is known in the west as sea bream, or snapper(?), or maybe porgy? It's in season now, at any rate, and it is sooooo singularly delicious. Not exotic. Just gorgeously normal and satisfying. But for those "thrills," a bit expensive. This little thug cost about 500 yen (a bit less than 5 bucks US?), which puts it in the nice treat zone for me for a dinner fling.
