Sombre

Over breakfast this morning I discovered that the 3 year old boy missing from home in Edinburgh since Thursday had been found dead across the street from us.

I'd thought the street seemed quiet. The police had closed it.

Daylight revealed media cars parked all around, plus the police. A helicopter arrived soon after.

A busy place most of the day. The media packed up once the body had been removed.

The house of the boy's relatives is about 100m along the street, and we've never had any contact. Can't even see it from here due to the woods.

Chilling.

Also brought to mind various murder cases I've been involved with professionally. Plenty things I'd rather forget.

But it's one thing when the victim is another criminal, or even just an unfortunate adult - different when it's a little kid.
