A story within a story

Back from a week outward bound residential with the Year 5s and Year 6s, hence no blipping. We had fantastic weather for the time of year, mainly rained over night and the kids had a whale of a time. It was as always a real privilege to see them take on new responsibilities, take care of each other, set themselves challenges and really push themselves beyond what they expected themselves capable of. The centre staff are a fantastic bunch - calm, funny, informative and so skilled at letting the kids work things out for themselves. If you have children and they are given the option to go on one of these courses I urge you to seize the opportunity with both hands. You may miss them, they may miss you, but boy they will come back with experiences to nurture them through the coming years.
I will backblip some photos taken along the way which show how the same goes for the staff accompanying them. I have never been so physically exhausted, frightened and exhilarated in turn.

Now, onto today's blip. Back to civilisation we decided to take a trip to Saltaire and the marvelous Salts Mill. A perfect way to spend a rainy Yorkshire day. We spent most of our time in the bookshops but stopped in one of the vintage shops to browse. I found an old penguin edition of Katherine Mansfield's short stories which I have been meaning to read for ages. But what really sealed the deal was the discovery of this tiny photo inside the book of a woman (mother?) looking adoringly at a child on her knee. The writing on the bottom says " Ride a cock horse". I'd love to know when it was taken and how their life story went.
