The former headquarters of the Thesen family's business empire.

The Thesen family had been successful farmers and businessmen in Stavanger, Norway but after losing their business in Norway in the 1868 recession, decided to emigrate to New Zealand. However, a near shipwreck en route led them, fortuitously, to Knysna where they established highly successful timber and shipping businesses.
