'The Abbey' Annandale

The Abbey is a well known landmark in the inner-city Sydney suburb of Annandale. It was built by John Young, the builder of St. Mary's Cathedral, and was completed in 1882. It is rumored that he stole some gargoyles from the cathedral to use in this house. He was a Freemason and decorated the house with their symbols.
According to Wikipedia, "Young built the home to impress his wife and encourage her to return from the UK. She did not return and they never lived in it. The Abbey was occupied by housekeepers while Young lived in a house called Kentville, near Rozelle Bay, which has since been demolished."

There is a tower which can be partially seen behind the tree on the right. Unfortunately the ugly power lines hanging along the street were a challenge.
