Looks can be deceiving

My brother made this sculpture at school many many years ago. These days it has pride of place at my Mums house and my children are always fascinated by it when they visit Grandma. In fact, they added the jaunty hat for the picture!

I think it looks a bit surreal on this picture against the dark background and what interests me is the incongruence of the relaxed, almost meditative facial expression which is betrayed by the suggested agitation or anxiety of a clenched fist.
