A changing world

This wonderful old globe is on display in the hall where we have our knitting group. I took a photo of it tonight just so I had a photo in the bag so to speak.

On getting home I uploaded it and realised how old the globe must be..... I can see Ceylon, which became known as Sri Lanka in 1972, and Siam which was used as the name of Thailand before 24 June 1939, and again from 8 September 1945 to 20 July 1949. ( thanks to Wikipedia)

Think I need to have a look again next week to see how many other countries have been renamed........
