Suspense

When I realised this was about to happen I had to jump off the dual carriageway to snap it. Quick head-math said it was more than a mile home from where I was so I'd miss all the noughts.

Which made me think about why round numbers fascinate us. Back in the day, it was a very /dad/ thing to fuel the car to £20 (or whatever minuscule amount it took to fill a car 20/25 yrs ago!) because dads paid for fuel with cash and the penny over threw the whole thing into disarray. I would venture that most people nowadays are all about the debit/credit card where a penny over means nothing. I pay by card without fail but still aim to land on a whole pound.

Or the volume on the tv. I've talked to otherwise-normal people who mustmustmust set the volume to a zero or a five, and others for whom it must be an even number. Crazy:)
