Hood Canal wetlands
Stayed up late talking talking talking.... time with good girlfriends and good books just cannot be beat!! In the morning (not too early!) we took a walk in the
Theler Wetlands, near Belfair, near the end of the Hood Canal. It’s a wonderful place for shore and water birds; you can walk on a trail with tidal marsh on one side and fresh water marsh on the other, leading into farmland. Since I was here last, a dike has been removed and the tidal Hood Canal allowed to travel a former route to enhance the way for the salmon to get back to the Union River which joins here. (No I won’t get started on the huge salmon issues in the PNW -I’m not done with oysters! :-) ) We actually didn’t see that many birds, but the landscape was considerably different so I’ve chosen the “new” old path of the Hood Canal to be the blip on a lovely day. Put some others from the nature preserve on flickr as well as a daylight picture of Sunset Beach (yesterday’s sunset blip) with an eagle on the post marking the end of the spit where those pacific oysters are commercially seeded. There are none of the original native ‘Olys” (olympic oysters) left here. They are much more susceptible to less than ideal conditions... It was a foggy morning that cleared to show the Olympic mountains from my friend’s deck with less snow on them than normal this time of year. But still pretty special to look at out your window!!!
Got home late afternoon and then off to a rather good lecture at the Seattle Art Museum on Robert Davidson, Haida artist, who has an exhibition there. Too tired to blip so it has waited til thurs am. Now I’m catching up.....
