Jasper Johns, New York

It was hard to choose a blip today as spent a couple of hours in MoMA New York this afternoon, first ever visit, what a treat.

Thought I would blip the real life Les demoiselles d'Avignon (almost blanked it as it's so well known I walked past at first), the beautiful blues and green of a Matisse or a Pollock or Warhol.

But in the end I opted for this detail of Jasper Johns' Flag because it was the most surprising. The flag and this 'painting' is very familiar but absolutely loved the texture of the piece which makes it quite special, canvas on plywood, strips of newspaper and encaustic paint (pigment mixed with molten wax).

Loved it and never expected to.
