Flood Plain

Lunch time detour; I had to take a quick set of site photos in connection with our survey project today and I continued down on to this bit of very scrubby flood plain.
Between Lochy Bridge and Loch Linnhe the River Lochy has a complicated path, dividing and going around islands then rejoining. The most northerly of these diversions sub divides again and creates more of these low lying islands. Some of these channels can run dry totally but are subject to re-flooding on high tides. The recent combination of high rainfall and high astronomical tides would have seen some of the islands entirely inundated. Alarmingly there is some recognition that some nearby housing could be at risk in extreme conditions too.
The ground and trees where the photo was taken had that look of being recently awash.
