Quanah Parker, Comanche Chief

This is my bronze portrait of Quanah Parker, the last free Comanche chief. His mother, Cynthia Ann Parker, was stolen as a child and adopted into the Comanche tribe. She bore 2 sons and Quanah kept his mother's name. He and his band were pursued by the Texas Rangers for years. His mother was captured twice; made it back to her beloved Comanche family the first time. Some say she died of a broken heart when she couldn't return. Quanah finally surrendered and later became a tribal judge. His legend still lives on in the Southwest. A fabulous book about Quanah and Cynthia Ann Parker is "Ride the Wind" by Lucia St. Claire Robson.
