Wooden Lady

I decided that it was about time that I started to record some of the sights that surround me every day. In Bamako, you can't move without tripping over stalls selling carved objects. This one was on sale in the town centre and it reflects another view that I see each time I'm out & about. The Malian ladies (very very rarely the men) have an uncanny ability to carry their shopping, baskets, boxes, all sorts of things on their head while walking. It keeps the hands free and their backs incredibly straight. This one is carved steadying the load with one hand, but I liked the wood colours. I'll get some pictures of real live ones for comparison at some later stage.
