The Deer Hunter

Tricky one today, which might upset some.

This is my mate Steve who is a keen hunter and deer stalker. He culls deer for the local estates and having been out with him, he is obsessive about ensuring that he will only take a shot when he is sure of a clean kill.

This is a doe that he shot this morning. What's interesting is that if everything fell apart in our society for economic or political or environmental or whatever reasons, then most of us would not have a clue about how to survive and how to look after ourselves. This is the guy I would head for.

He can do the "rubbing sticks to make fire" trick, he can create shelters out of nothing and he knows how to hunt and prepare animals for food.

We are very disconnected from the food chain except at the point of consumption. This guy sees the whole process from start to finish and in a way takes more responsibility than most of us for the cost of our lifestyle.
