Silhouette from Bel Ombré

Silhouette is the third largest island in the Seychelles. The name Silhouette was given after Etienne de Silhouette (1709-1767), the French minister of finances under Louis XV. His short tenure as finance chief caused him to become an object of ridicule. His penny-pinching manner led the term à la Silhouette to be applied to things perceived as cheap. This photo was taken from Bel Ombré on Mahe. At the Bel Ombre beach on the island of Mahé, stones were found, with carvings like: dogs, snakes, tortoises, horses, a ballot box, a figure of a young woman, and the head of a man. This is the supposed site of the famous treasure of Olivier Levasseur (Calais, 1680 or 1690 – Réunion, 7 July 1730), a pirate, nicknamed La Buse or La Bouche (The Buzzard).
