Favourite tree again!

This is a huge old hornbeam pollard. They mark the edge of our bridleway, which is itself ancient. No idea how old this tree is - pollards and coppiced trees sometimes get very old indeed, and very wide. The leaves make a carpet, like beech, and the canopy is dense, so not much else grows under it.
