Kirkconnell Flow

Between Mabie Forest and the Nith is a small Nature Reserve called Kirkconnell Flow, a lonely place and one to which I return with some trepidation, as it was here that I tripped and broke my arm two years ago. Still, I am drawn back to this rare habitat of peat bog, fringed by silver birch and Scots pine.
Today the air was still and cold, and I was the only human visitor. Strangely little sight or sound of birds, and the wail of an ambulance siren heading along the coast road was the only notable noise. The big expanse of sky over the bog was grey and everything was still and peaceful.

A special place.
