Affettuoso

I've come to look forward to the sound of two flutes playing as I arrive at the church for rehearsal -- their warm, delicate notes interweaving, dancing in and out of each other's melody line. I suspect I've already cultivated a greater appreciation for flute repertoire and just how awesome a flute can sound in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

Here are two such folks: John, is not only our bassist, fluent in multiple genres including jazz, pop, as well as classical, he is also an amazing flutist. Shelley, is our principle flutist and sounds absolutely superb. John and Shelley, along with our harpsichordist, Lynn, are the group Affettuoso, a trio specializing in music of the baroque period. They will perform a program that will include Vivaldi, Bach, Hasse, and Boismortier, in Burlington, WA on Sunday, January 26, 2014 @ 3pm at Burlington Lutheran Church, 134 E. Victoria Avenue -- for FREE. Go hear them, if you have time.

Tonight, we worked on a concerto, by Mozart, for flute and harp. What a perfect combination of instruments to play out Mozart's delicate, intricate melodies, and what fun it will be for the orchestra to work this piece up with John on bass and Shelley on flute.

A very inspiring rehearsal this evening!
