Missing Door....

Back to our house today. First day in ages that I've been feeling well enough to do some work.

The house is coming along quite well and despite the hugely unfinished look, it's close to being finished. But the one job that I do need to get on with is redoing the panel wall in the reception room.

Many years ago these houses were built with a breezeway between the house and garage. As years went by more and more owners sealed in the breezeway and made an extra room. It can only be called a reception room at best.

The owners of this house decided to put in cheap wood panels and cover up the door to the garage. From behind (you see here) it's pretty obvious (it was obvious when I tore the manky insulation away from it).

So spent the day putting in the new door.

First job was really to sort out the old door frame - eg make it a bit bigger. Bit of a question about putting in a double header (2 2x4s above the door), which I did in the end. Took a couple of hours to replace all the studs with new studs, and then it took 15 minutes to install the door.

Best door I've ever installed! It fitted perfectly, lined up perfectly, couple of nails to keep it in place as we lined up the door frame, and job done. Very pleased. In 5 minutes I had a new locking door handle on and the house was secure again. (Garage rear door isn't secure yet).

The annoying thing today is that I must get the doors done tomorrow. I took off all the doors when I was painting, and stored them in the garage. Lots of surface mold over them now. So I think tomorrow I need to Chlorox them all, get them painted and out of the garage and back in their door frames. Trouble is that this is not good painting weather.....
