Härnösand from Beacon Hill
This is my nearest town, where I work. You can see the whole town from this hilltop,
the highest point on the island. When the Russian fleets approached beacons were lit all along the coast to warn the people. (Härnosand Cathedral was burned by raiding Russians in 1721.) This hilltop is Vårdkasen (Beacon Hill).
Nowadays there is a ski slope, a restaurant , 3 wind turbines, and a viewing tower.
All the water you see in this picture is the sea, but you cannot see the narrow channel that keeps Härnön an island. Check the map to see that. We are looking northwards here.
