Rising Squares

In the modern aesthetic, we are moving our lives into ordered environments, squares and rectangles, rising above the chaos of nature below. Does this separate us from the environment, or allow us a better perspective to really see and appreciate it?
Todays DDW January Challenge was "Squares", and as I drove past a variety of housing on my way to Dewsbury first thing this morning, I was thinking about how regular shapes have begun to define our towns and cities. I wish I'd had more time to stop - there is some lovely architecture round here.
