Dead But Alive

This lovely tree stump on our wet walk today caught my eye.
It's had years of growing, still more years as a stump and is now the host to many tiny creatures and plants. The fungi and mosses contrast each other and also the rigid yet spongy bark.

Most definitely very alive!! How many of us, I wonder, have passed by?
