My Kind of Place
It was calm as the sun began to rise over the Pacific Ocean. Piercing cries of gulls, terns, pied shags and oyster catchters were caught on a light warm nor'west breeze as they headed out to sea to catch their breakfast. A couple were sitting on the beach with their flask of tea and cameras all set to capture the magic of the morning rise, while in the distance I could see a couple of dog walkers enjoying their morning stroll. After a 'Good Morning' and light chatter, I headed off towards the estuary keeping an eye on the sun behind me, feeling its warmth on my back as the waves quietly lapped the shore.
The king tide of just a few days ago and winter storms have left plenty of driftwood lying on the beach, good for making huts as its still school holidays over here. The golden light of the sun caught the sand dunes creating long crawling shadows over the sand while the light nor'west breeze rustled and swayed the grasses as lupin seed pods cracked and popped in the sun.
I was fortunate to see godwits, pied stilts, banded dotterels, black swans and Canada geese on the estuary, all with their heads down fossicking for food along the waters edge or ducking in the middle of the estuary as the tide proceeded to head out. It was good to be back at the beach, my kind of place.
The rest of the day has been most pleasant, the wind has turned as white clouds have passed by, the air is cooler and I think we're in for a change of weather but only time will tell - its currently 16C dropping from 21C at mid-day.
Happy Monday everyone :)
