Young kestrel
Surveying his surrounds -
The shore, the downs, the coastal gardens -
Scattering blue tits and sparrows
He is still and watchful
But eventually he turns around and
Gives me the eye.
After yesterday's encounter, I couldn't believe our luck when Tom and I spotted this young kestrel (thanks to mikewithmg for telling me it wasn't a sparrowhawk) on the way into town for a pub lunch. Incredibly, few others showed any interest in him. I think he may be a different, younger bird than yesterday's - he seems to have very ruffled, chick-like feathers.
Others taken today are kestrel rising and watchful kestrel.
