Casurina bark
Staying with the 'bark' theme, I photographed one of the Casurina trees in our garden today. They haven't grown very straight, and a few years ago we felled a couple of them. That was when I appreciated that these are fire resistant trees. The wood (including the bark) is very hard to burn, as we found out when we put it into the log burner. Chopping up the trees as normal, drying the logs well over summer, they still failed to burn. They are, however, useful to keep the fire smoldering slowly for a very long time.....
