Long-Tailed Tit
What a good photography day – I really am spoilt for choice.
At last a sunny day, on the chill side but with just a very light breeze. Decided to walk along the cycle track and nature reserve marshes. On the big pond were plenty of lapwing, some mallard, black headed gulls, moorhens and teal. Also spotted what we think was a pintail skulking in the reeds. As we walked on down a heron popped his head up.
The main marsh fields appeared empty of the usual winter visitors. Perhaps not too surprising as there had been a lot of hedging and ditching and /or that with some much wet about and relative mild weather the birds were spoilt for choice. Still it was just pleasant to walk with the sun on ones face. Further up the track by a small pond we heard the chirrup chirrup of a small posse of long-tailed tits. They were close enough to get good views and a few photos. They are such entertaining little birds. Walking back more flocks of lapwing flew over and went down to join the others. A buzzard was perched in a tree but flew off as we approached. A peregrine flew over , soaring higher and higher. Back at the big pond the heron was hunting, standing motionless perfectly reflected in the still water while teal dabbled around. Lunch called a really good.
Clear skies followed a sunny day. Gofer got out his scope, Jupiter with four moons looked amazing: so yes I had to have a go, also the moon and the Orion constellation.
So such a choice. I’ve decided to go with a Long-Tailed Tit simply because they do not come along with such good views every day and hopefully we will get more clear skies and I will get more photos of the moon and Jupiter.
I hope to put the other photos of the day on my flickr sight
